A tale of two tails
Two stories about kitties:
1. We have been through a couple of cats this year at our new home. We have learned the hard way that this is not a safe environment to allow kitties outdoors. One orange beautiful cat we adopted from humane society was originally named pumpkin but renamed tiger. He had gone from being so frightened of us that he would hide under the bed at our arrival home to...

Dorothy's Birth Story
Let’s start from the beginning. I found out I was pregnant while taking the minipill, aka the progesterine-only pill, aka the pill to safe while nursing. Due to this I was pretty sure I was due at the end of April and found out at 15 weeks I was a month further along. Due to this I have often been uncertain about if it was my actual EDD.
My mom came to town two weeks before I was due. A...
Dorothy's arrival!
Dorothy Virginia entered our world on Friday 3/30 at 10:06pm. She was 6lbs 11 oz and 19 in long. I will type a lengthy birth story soon but just as a hint/spoiler…
My “intake” time was 10:03pm.
Mmmhmm.

Miss Helena louise has officially peed in the potty. Hooray!!
She was very nervous about peeing without a diaper and kept saying “bi-per?” and “poopoo” which is the universal word for her excrement.

Fever Breaks
So Helena is on the mend. She’s still has a runny nose and gross cough but she’s playing again and eating regular foods again. (For a couple days there it was just blueberries, etc).
But as expected, Eric and I both came down with it. Now who has it worse:
Eric, who has to go do pt in the morning (which can range from running 5mi to a martial arts to lifting at the gym) or me, 33...
Cough
We’ve officially heard the words “Upper respiratory….probably a virus.”
Spent a couple hours in the ER with a sick toddler and 104.7 temp. She’s so sick and miserable.
But she gets to watch tv. And not just tv. But children’s tv. I don’t think I’ve put on a children’s tv show on around her before. She stood up (this was yesterday, before she...

She was making kisses right before I started filming so that’s why I keep bringing it up. This is a video we sent to Eric to say hi. Here she is, world!
Lol assembly required
If any of you happen to be assembling a “Melissa and Doug’s kitchen corner” let it be known there is a typo in the second to last page of instruction. Nut 6 is actually nut 7. Screw 7 is actually screw 8.
You’re welcome.

Girls girls girls
Oh yeah, we are having a girl… Lol! Never posted those results. I mean, we had two separate lab techs tell us but the one who showed us the genitals was less certain. More like 80 percent. Which I’m willing to count on.
Her name? Well, we are going the same route as before. Helena louise was named after our maternal grandmothers . Helen is eric’s maternal grandma. Louise is...

opinions are like...
I feel a little guilty about my last post. I feel like I got preachy and I don’t want to be. I hope its understood these are personal parenting choices that I felt were the most important ones for ME to stick to for a newborn. I felt most proud of those choices. But I don’t wanna harp on anyone else for their decision. As the new baby gets closer and closer, I’ve become more...

Advice for new parents
I recall being inundated parenting advice before I had Helena and not knowing here from there. Everyone had an opinion and everyone parented differently. Contemporary parenting practices differ from older practices. Whose advice to take?! I tend to drift towards the crunchy, natural parenting philosophies. They tend to make sense. I wanted to distill down my 3 most important guidelines for...

Surprise, surprise
I got pregnant taking the minipill, aka the progesterine only pill. It’s the birth control pill thats safe to take while breastfeeding. And I hadn’t had many problems with it up til the point I got pregnant. And, for the record, if you’re taking the mini pill, please read as much as you can online about it. I don’t want to discredit its power to not-impregnate but I read a...

Op Sec
I am reluctant to make posts or share awesome things with this blog due to “Op Sec.” This blog was initially created to share our lives with friends and family, no matter where they are located. But there is this nuisance known as “Op Sec” or “operational security.”
Let’s delve into this military spouse world. Op Sec is basically not revealing any...

Nursey whosit
I’m in the midst of making decisions for baby/toddler interior decorating.
With the new baby coming I’ve been wondering how I want to set up the layout for the two of them. We have Helena’s room, toys and all, in a room. Next to her room is another room thats a smidge smaller.
The first few months of Baby#2’s life will be spent in our room anyway. But I’ve been...

Eric Idol
When E was home on leave and I had Helena we spent an evening with the Finneys playing Rock Band and having a good time. Thus created my favorite of Eric’s “songs with the words changed.” I heard the song today and I’d like to relay the refrain:
“In the midnight hour
she cried more, more milk.
With a rebel yell
she cried more, more milk.”

Sunday
Eric and I ran a 5k. Helena sat in stroller. Passed the ball back and forth between the pockets in her stroller. I aimed to finish the run while running and did so. Although Eric’s supportive run next to me was walking alongside my shuffle run. Yeah, my run was that slow. Hahaha. But at least I kept going and didn’t walk. That was my challenge.
We now have a washer dryer and...

Yes!!!
I am very excited! Today my mom and sister are coming to visit. They are bringing a Uhaul of a bunch of things Eric and I had waiting for us in storage in Indianapolis. Most importantly, our washer/dryer. Thats right, we’ve not had a washer/dryer in almost 6months. And let me tell you, its not been pretty.
This has been an ongoing battle because, understandably, our families in Indianapolis...

Update shupdate
I’m waiting on Eric to get home. It’s 8:43pm. He’s been away at work since 6am. Unfortunately he will not get home to see Helena awake today. Here’s the lowdown of our lives as of current:
Eric began school, which is 43 credits in 7months with the first 6 weeks being the most intense. He’s in an intensive medic training and has a test on Monday which requires many...

I haven’t updated my non-personal blog in a long time but I figure now is the perfect time to start. I have a blog dedicated to all things “long distance relationship.” Check it out if you’re so inclined:
